A writer's Inspiration comes from everywhere. Memories. Photographs. Words spoken. Films. Books. Magazines.
Here are some of the images (links where I am unable to show you the image due to copyright) that inspired moments in the story.

This photograph was the inspiration for the picture of Eleanor's mother that hung over the fireplace in the living room. It's not just the dress, which is stunningly beautiful, but the photograph and the model capture the elegance of the time.
The portrait of Eleanor's grandmother was inspired by a painting of 'Pauline In a Yellow Dress' by Herbert James Gunn. It was painted in the 1940s but he was a famous portrait painter in the years before the war. It can be found in the Harris Gallery, Preston.
Eleanor herself was photographed by David Bailey, one of the world's greatest photographers and someone I once worked with as a lowly assistant to a photographer's assistant.

This is an artist's impression of the Francisan Friary in Walsingham, my inspiration for Waterden Friary. Dated around 1510, this shows the Friary and the Friday Market in its heyday, before Henry V111 precipitated the Dissolution of the Monastries. In this case the Friary was dissolved in 1538, the same year as Walsingham Priory. In the case of the Walsingham Friary, very little of the original buildings still remain, although some of the walls of the guest house and little cloister can still be seen (below). Photographs courtesy of Lucinda Dinda.
